The Glass Box:
Exclusion of the Roma from Employment
The report "The Glass Box: Exclusion of Roma from Employment" examines the findings and implications of research on employment discrimination against Roma carried out in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia; identifies best practice measures replicable elsewhere; and elaborates a set of recommendations for future actions. A glass box excludes Roma from gainful employment, denies Roma access to major segments of the labour market, blocks Roma from having access to well-remunerated work, isolates Roma at the workplace, and secludes Roma into segregated work arrangements dealing solely with Roma issues.
The report "The Glass Box: Exclsuion of Roma from Emloyment" was produced in the framework of the project " Advocacy Action in Favour of the Promotion of the Integration of Roma in Education and Employment" funded by the EU as part of the Community Action Program to Combat Discrimination 2001-2006. The project was implemented in the period 2005-2006 by the International Helsiinki Federation, European Roma Information Office and the European Roma Rights Center. The Open Society Institute Economic and Business Development Program provided additional support towards the reserach on discrimination
